Roger Joseph Durand, 54, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, February 23, 2019 at his home with his wife Sherry by his side.
Roger was born in Roswell, NM to Joe and Martha Durand on December 10, 1964. He spent his entire 54 years in Dexter. Roger married Sherry Parriera September 12, 1985, and they had two sons, Taylor and Tim. Roger is survived by all the above along with his sister, Michelle Runyan and her two daughters, Ashley and Alysia, and her three grandsons of Garland, Texas.
Roger farmed the family farm with his father and sons. He was Dexter’s USPS Rural Mail Deliverer for the past fifteen years. Roger was a devoted and loving son, husband, father and brother. Every day his family knew Roger would be checking in on them.
The 4th of July was his favorite holiday and all his Lake Van neighbors enjoyed his enthusiasm over the years at their celebrations. Roger shared his passion of sports with his boys. Well, maybe, his passion was arguing with the guys every weekend watching the games. They also enjoyed an extremely competitive Fantasy Football competition each season and he truly loved his role as Leader of the “Dexter Demon Chain Gang.”
Honorary pallbearers: Todd Bible (deceased), Larry Benedict, Joe Freeland, Ben Coats, Scott Bogle, Lee Parriera, Steve Powell, and John Thomas Reid.
Memorial services will be held at Dexter’s First Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Stephen Deutsch officiating.
Friday afternoon there will be a Celebration of Life for Roger Durand at The Farm. The family would love for everyone to come by and share your memories of Roger with family and friends.

My friend and coworker will be greatly missed. It was such a delight working with Roger at Dexter Post Office the last several years. He was always willing to help me out with the mail and I will forever be grateful. There were some days when Roger would come into work with breakfast burritos for all of us. At Christmas, he would give us all gift cards that could be used at three different restaurants. He never expected anything in return, but I would always give him a box of chocolate anyway. Roger was a great mail carrier and was very appreciative by his customers. All of us at Dexter, Hagerman and Lake Arthur post offices are very saddened by his loss and he will always hold a special place in our hearts. Many thoughts and prayers to the Durand family. May God give you strength and comfort during this difficult time.

My sincerest condolences to the Durand family. I've had the pleasure of working with Rodger over the past 8 years and he will be truly missed. I always got a kick out of his "directness" so it has been with a heavy heart as I approach the intersections where our routes met knowing he won't be there to give me a wave.

I'll never forget Roger growing up. As I visited Michelle he would not want to be around us girls. Typical boy LOL. I remember him at granny's with Joe, Todd and my brother Larry. They were always playing games, and he was right there with them. I had heard great things about how he helped his neighbors over the last few years. I once asked "What does Roger look like these days?" I was told the same as always, tall and skinny. Of course my reaction was "Tall?". I hadn't seen Roger since probably around 1981. Roger will be missed by many.

Life is fragile and so precious especially when we lose a loved one in death. May your family draw comfort in knowing that those sleeping in death are not suffering. The Bible’s wonderful hope found at Isaiah 25:8 tell us “He will swallow up death forever, and the sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.” May this promise strengthen and comfort you during this time.
