A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at South Park Cemetery for Donald Stephen McKenzie, 67, of Roswell who passed away January 29, 2010 at Roswell Regional Hospital. Harry Tackett of West Alameda Church of Christ will officiate. Family will receive friends Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ballard Funeral Home.
Donald was born on July 8, 1942 to Lenard Richard McKenzie and Katherine Hefner McKenzie in Roswell, NM. His father has preceded him in death.
Donald is survived by his mother: Katherine McKenzie of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; his sons: Lenard W. McKenzie and wife Aurora of Kirtland, NM, Michael Don McKenzie; his daughters: Susan, Jennifer and Stacy Lyn; his sister: Norma Stromme and husband Ralph of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; his nephews: Ralph L. Stromme and Eric L. Stromme; and Cowboy as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Donald graduated from Roswell High School in 1961 then went on to attended New Mexico Military Institute and received his bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University – Portales. He taught school and coached athletics in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. He enjoyed bowling but his favorite pastime was football.
