A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm, Monday, August 7, 2017 at Grace Community Church Auditorium for Mike Childress, 66, who passed on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Roswell, NM. Pastor Sean Lee of Grace Community Church will officiate.

Mike was born July 26, 1951 in Carlsbad, NM to Donald G. and Peggy N. Childress, his father preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Kim Childress of the family in home in Roswell, NM; mother Peggy Young of Roswell, NM; daughter Moria Wegelin and husband Jackson of Stow, OH; son Colter Childress and wife Jennifer of Roswell, NM; brothers Pat Childress of Artesia, NM and Gaylan Young and wife Tammy of Roswell, NM and eight grandchildren.

Mike and Kim shared 37 years together and have 2 amazing children he was very proud of. He took great delight in watching his 8 grandchildren grow and flourish: Alyssa, Alexis, Regan, Xavier, Lexie, Colter, Lillian, and Kynlee.

He was a public servant at heart having worked for the New Mexico Department of Health for 26 years and his devotion to the New Mexico Mounted Patrol. He cared deeply about the citizens and police that comprised his jurisdiction. This spanned the entire state of New Mexico over the course of his 33 year career. He advanced through the ranks of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol to become Chief and proudly served in this capacity until retiring.   He loved teaching and watching young people achieve their dreams of being in law enforcement.

He will be missed but his legacy lives on in the many hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
